Hi Everyone,



I am wondering what everyone is doing to seal the two openings at the lower front sides of the fuselage close to where the leading edge of the wing intersects the fuselage.

I cut a block of wood to fit, then tacked down tar paper, then covered it with a small piece of asphalt shingle.

Honestly, I filled the hole with clear silicone and cut it when cured to roughly match the contour.  It's not a real noticeable thing when done, but I'm sure some folks agonize over it and try fancier things.

North of the 49th we use duct tape for a more professional finish. Wood / shingles???? How dÃ©classÃ© can you get.

Duct Tape!  Wow, I didn't know you guys up north were that

caught up on technology!  You've really come a long ways.

I was going to just use a gob of roofing tar, but figured

the shingles would give it that extra level of protection. 

I think Scott Schmidt used about 5 pieces of Hubba Bubba

bubble gum, after chewing it for just the right amount

of time that the flavor wasn't yet gone, but the gum

was more sticky so it would last.  It doubles as a bubble

gum flavored air freshener.

Proseal works well.Â  Avoid RTV or anything with silicone because of paint adhesion issues later.

overshoot the runway landing Lake Tahoe.

While you are discussing this, anyone anal enough to seal the pop rivet 

shank holes in the floor boards to prevent dirt and liquids from getting 

where you can't inspect or clean? I suppose pro-seal or superfill are 

possibilities, no on RTV because of paint issues.

Most folks end up with some kind of carpet so I can't imagine it would be worth the effort.  Doubtful even without the carpet to be honest.

Actually, I think that's a great possible location for

Carbon Monoxide to get in so I think sealing it is

a good idea.  You'll never notice the hole on the inside

even without carpet, but you'd notice it if you were

up high at altitude and then got CO poisoning...
