Greetings List,
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I also am having an issue with my engine. I have a 503 DCDI in a Firestar ll. I have a reading of 310 and 210 on the CHT gauge. The readings do change in flight however the difference between readings is in the neighborhood of 90 to 110 degrees. I am concerned about the variable in temps. Can the temps really be that different? My EGT is showing 1100/1050.  This is with the RPMs at 5500. What may be causing the lower reading on the one cylinder?

If your spark plugs look the same in both cylinders and the EGT`s are
the same for both cylinders. You may have a bad CHT gauge or sending
unit. You can switch the sending unit wires on the back of the gauge,
and see if the readings reverse themselves. Hope this helps.

You can also put the sensors in boiling water to see if they read 212. If they read properly, when was the last time you balanced the carbs? Do you run separate air filters. I'm assuming K & N here, try cleaning and reoiling. Are you the original owner of the engine? If not, check that jets are the same, clip is in the same slot on the needle for both carbs. Last, look for air leaks in the carb boots. Take them off and look at the inside in a strong light. If you haven't changed them in a few years, do yourself a favor and order new from JBM. You could also have a crack in the rubber seal on the piston of a starting carburetor (erroneously called a choke).
