Anyone considering a Viking engine please be advised,
I have had $4,300 deposit since Oct 28th and payment in full since May 8th and still haven't seen my engine yet.
I called Jan today and he hung up on me and all I got after that was voice mail. I don't think that I would be ordering an engine from him.

Seems like the person knocking a wonderful experiment in finding a new engine and making it work in LSA's is upset. The person complaining must have believed as many do that it would work wonderfully and be half the price of the Rotax. He also knew that this was a new project for a business dedicated to finding a reasonable option. Personal diatribes against the experimental community, businesses and people who honestly work in it really aren't necessary. The complainer did agreed to the experiment when they placed the deposit and made the order for an engine that's never truly been tested in many aircraft before. What's really changed? The facts are that some of the engines are late because of design updates and ones so far in aircraft run well. Delay is also well known function of the experimental market. Some people will be upset with delay but most won't. We can always grow up and pay for the Bombardier if we want well tested engines now. Honda thought the engine was worth selling, and on the track it simply screams while holding up under vicious conditions. It also has the the same reliability on the water. So far it looks like the experiment is working, and working well. Time will tell. I for one hope it works well and Jan makes a few bucks on his dedication to the experimental community.

For a minute there I thought I was on a William Wynne post. Not knocking Jon as he has done some impressive stuff but why is it ok to take a mans money and not deliver the product for months and sometimes even years? I know it takes money for R & D but with that doesn't include not answering the phone or hanging up on people because you can't deliver, most times a honest conversation is all that is required for a smooth business transaction to be completed and when hang ups become the norm the buyer has every right to bitch and post about it.

    Hmmm.
Here is my concept of business 101 when dealing with experimental stuff.... I create an idea, spend MY money on development and test it beyond normal methods to assure myself and the future buyer it is sound and viable. Only then will I ACCEPT a small deposit for me to furnish the customer a working firewall forward powerplant. I will ask for the remaining balance when that engine is finished and ready to ship. The original poster claimed he paid a deposit, and then paid the remaining balance, waited weeks, and got hung up on when questioning Eggenfellner on a delivery date....... How many times have we seen people pony up good money only to see it all lost by someone using future capital to fund their day to day expenses is a "less then prudent" way ?  IMHO

I had talked at length with Jan at Sun&Fun about the timing of a delivery. I knew full well when I placed the order that he would not be able to deliver on the schedule he wanted.
All I wanted was a REALISTIC time frame. My plane was flying just fine at the time. When Jan said that he was going to ship on a certain time frame, I removed my old engine and started on the preparations for the engine exchange.
So now my plane sits there without an engine and all I have are empty promises.
Having built two planes already, I know something about unplanned delays etc. ( one a kit, one from plans)
He even put it on his own web site that the engines would ship the first week of June.
And yes I do have documentation for all of this.
If you want the engine like I do, just be prepared to wait a lot longer than promised.
I probably should have waited till the next day to blast him, but when you hang up and won't take anymore calls, I get pissed. Especially when there is that much money on the line.

I feel I must hop in and add my experience with Viking Aircraft Engines to this discussion. I am a very satisfied Viking engine owner powering my 701. It should soon be on its way to OSH. for examination by anyone interested. Jan explained in his online communications several times that his priority was to make this engine as fully developed as possible before they made their way all over the country. He has answered and returned my calls ( though I try to keep them to a minimum ) and answered any emails I have sent. I have been to his shop and I am impressed with his operation, capabilities, and low overhead which is what we should appreciate as it keeps our costs lower.
I have owned my own businesses for nearly 40 years and I see nothing with Viking engine which causes me concern. I saw many engines in process very near to being shipped out.
I am already thinking of my next project which will have a Viking Aircraft engine on it and wondering if I should put a deposit on it to lock up a very good price.
    Just my 2 cents worth,
    Skyjeep701

I received my engine today and it looks great!
Can't wait to get it hung and start the install.
Some parts have been back ordered but I hope that will not be too long.

Great to hear the good news Dan. I am located about 2 hours south of you in In with the factory installed Viking and you are welcome to avail yourself of it anytime to help with your install.

    Best of luck,
