RV-12 w/ Rotax 921ULS operating normally. At lower rpm no abnormal noice in the headset. Upon takeoff lots of noise...crackling, spitting, arcing type noise. Radio turned off makes no difference, so it seems to be some radiation getting directly into the Zulu headset, perhaps via the intercom which is yet to be fully explored.
When reducing throttle the noise disappears...its only at higher rpms.
Have you encountered this? If so, what resolution was found? I can fly the plane and just put up with the noise which isn't all that terrible, but want to clear it up. No electrical oddities have been noted.
Thanks for any tips.

John,
I have a similar issue come up in the last 10 days on my 914. I have an Airmaster CS propeller so for me the spitting / crackling noises occur at lower power settings.
At this point I am getting it through my SL30 radio. At its least troublesome it will break the squelch, at its worst I can hardly hear other transmissions.
My trouble shooting has been focused on eliminating other potential sources. I have ruled out the following:
- Headsets
- Transponder
- Strobe
- Apollo GX50 GPS
- Does not reduce when running on a single mag.

Hello John.
Your Zulu headset has a noise activated microphone, so it could be picking up the sound in your cockpit at high rpm. It should have an adjustment screw to lower the sensitivity.
Check with Lightspeed for this problem. Sometimes it is just the squelch setting in the intercom that you can adjust for this problem. Hope this helps.
Johann

Johann - you hit it on the head ! I flew this morning with a non-noise
reducing headset and there was no noise. I changed to Zulu ANR, fiddled with
the squelch on the intercom, sensitivity on the ANR and problem gone !
Thanks for the help !!!

Hello John.
Glad I could help. I like the Lightspeed headsets. Makes all the difference with the ANR.
Best regards,
