Richard I've been following Swift fuels progress over the years and found it interesting that they can produce a fuel for aircraft from bio and they say cheaper than fossil whats the holdup to get it to market (government?). They say the aviation fuel market is small enough that the big boy oil companies really aren't interested so a small start up company like Swift should be chomping at the bit. I really don't like Government what can the people not going Oshkosh do to help? I also read that AOPA was considering a Backing a manufacturer using unleaded car gas with additives, I like the American company making a fuel from bio and all on American soil.

I’m all for using car gas (with additives and no eth). But I’m not for bio. The more that is made from bio, the higher our food prices will rise. There also isn’t enough farm land to convert completely over to bio fuels (for all the car/boat/planes) so it really is an realistic alternative. If you look at the required crop yields to obtain bio fuels for cars/planes/boat fuel replacements, we’d need to more than double the amount of farm land, and that would leave us importing all our crops for food.

Ah, but Swift Fuel can easily be made from petroleum, natural gas, any non food biomass, and probably garbage. The beauty of this is that we will likely use several different sources, so as not to be too dependent on any one. Present ethanol distribution infrastructure can be taken over. Swift fuel allows the engine to stay cleaner and has no alcohols in it. It also yields 15% more range per gallon.

No offense intended but I’ll believe it when I see the actual low price/higher performance fuel delivered. The energy in the fuel has to come from somewhere.
I also understand that if I use the Swift Fuel for 60 days I can lose 60+ unwanted pounds around my middle, and regrow my hair. If I order in the next 10 min I get a set of Ginzu steak knives….

Swift is not likely to be cheaper than 100 LL. The FAA and EPA are on board but the fuel certification process has never been done before for non-gasoline fuel, so that policy is having to be created from scratch. While this is government at it's worst, it is moving forward and will happen within a year or so. 500,000 gallons have just been contracted to produce by a petroleum firm but will not be available to the public yet. Bio sources will be phased in. It's all about the investors source of base product. A company with natural gas Or sorghum plants will each be able to pay for the proprietary chemical process to make Swift and sell it. Very flexible. There are operational changes one must make to use Swift fuel: it burns longer in the ignition cycle than 100LL . The mixture must be leaned even during takeoff power but the detonation margin is so much higher than 100LL that there is no problem. Exhaust is a bit sooty if not leaned properly. When you are exclusively burning Swift, you will advance the timing by 3 degrees to get a better burn. At 100LL settings, you get 98.5% power with Swift fuel, but 15% more range. It weighs one pound more per gallon. CHT is cooler and EGT is hotter by 50 degrees.
It is easily mixable with 100LL. I have been testing this in my Sukhoi. Automixture is requiring some adjustment of carb settings, which takes time. I can't tell the difference between 100LL and a 50:50 mixture with Swift from a performance standpoint. We use a jpi engine analyzer, bore scoping, compression checks, and oil analysis to monitor as much as we can while I collate all the performance numbers.
From what I have seen, I am very pumped up about it. I wish I had a manual mixture control and may go to a fuel injection unit to make this easier, though these units are not working well yet.
Lycoming and Continental are now involved. An engine can eventually be built up with higher compression to take advantage of the huge detonation margin.
You ask what you can do. Your interest is exceptional and in the minority. Most pilots are not convinced there is a problem. Public support or at least awareness is the best place to help.
