i dont know if this may help anyone... to resize a image automaticly,, go to

tools
internet options
advanced tab
scroll down to multi media
check the box "enable automatic image resizing"
click ok at the bottom of the window

if you download an image that is too large to display without using the left right up down scroll bars,,, it will download at full size and when done it will resize to fit the window.

I got as far as advanced then the trail ran out. I use firefox.
Was that for Internet explorer?

yes it was,,,,, i forget about the other internet options. i would think
that there is some options in firefox that would be quite simular. but i
have no experience with it.

With Firefox, it may depend on the version you're using.  Many version of Firefox has auto-resizing turned on as the default.  But you can check it as follows (and, again, this may or may not work with your version of FF):
  1. Type about:config in the Firefox address bar
  2. Search for browser.enable_automatic_image_resizing
  3. See if it's set to true.... if not, change it to true
