I'm just about ready to hang my engine, and have found I don't know
enough about hooking up one of these. I don't know if there is anything I
want to hook to the engine before hanging it on the plane (have already
put most of what I want on the firewall). Also, I don't know what hooks
where on this thing. Looking for recomendations on where to learn more.

As my questions require pictures, put it online:

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

Hi Brain,

Well, rule of thumb is that you don't want anything mounted on the back of the engine that you'd have to take the engine off to service (Ferrari should take a note). On the -8, there's plenty of room between the firewall and the back of the motor to do most things pretty easily.

I would recommend getting a set of Van's RV-8 Firewall Forward plans. They show you pretty clearly where everything should go and what needs to be plumbed where. I'd also recommend Van's FWF kit. All the hoses are cut and terminated to fit perfectly. Saves a ton of head scratching. Worth twice the price.

You can also check out my RV-8 build site and specifically the engine section. There should be plenty of pictures there to give you an idea of what goes where. Here a starter link:

http://www.mattsrv8.com/users/category.php?user=MattsRV8&project=638&category=2972

Start at the bottom of the page and work your way up. Pretty much documents the whole process, at least as far as how I did it.

I'd be happy to take any additional pictures if you don't find them on my site. Also happy to answer any questions.

Best regards,

Matt

Good point. I should just hang it as is and get the CG forward of the
wheels.

I didn't want to get the kit because what I want (fixed pitch,
inverted oil, minimal electric) is different enough from others as to end
up paying for stuff I didn't use. Looking at the list, I already have a
fair bit of what is on it. I didn't know they would sell just the plans,
that would be worth getting.
