Dreaming a little about things I'd like to do with our Pulsar and putting in a Dynon is high on the list. Does anyone know what kind of weight savings can be had by eliminating a vacuum pump, associated filters and regulator, and of course six instruments? I'm thinking (hoping) for about 20lbs, but without taking it all out and weighing it I'm at a loss.
Also thinking of going to some light radios like the Becker from the installed King radio and transponder. Anyone know what those or the Microair radio and transponders weigh?
Thanks
Chris

Chris,
I replaced my unreliable Terra radio and transponder about 18 months ago. Fitted an Xcom radio. Very light, good function set. And a Trig transponder. The transponder is fantastic. S mode. The head unit is so small and light, and is fitted with an internal alt encoder. The main unit is mounted remotely, behind the seat and closer to the antenna, thus minimizing loss in the antenna cable. It is also very small and light. Fantastic performance, and excellent value, price competitive.

Chris,
We put in a Dynon D180 and a complete vacuum system as a backup. I just do not need it and will be taking the vacuum system out this winter. Anyone need a vacuum pump?

Dennis,
I may be interested. Mine has over 800 hours and my A&P says 600 is about max. Not whining yet but probably won't last much longer. Let me know what you would like for it.

Austin,
I am not ready to take it out yet as I want to fly. This winter I will let you know if that is not too late. It has 40 hrs on it now and seems to work just fine. New it was about $600, but I will make you a deal on it.

D180 looks like the way to go. However... Watched a very cool video on youtube about a guy in his Lancair Legacy. He lost his engine at 15,000 feet and had to descend through IMC using his synthetic vision. The video is extremely well done and includes all the conversation recorded between him and the tower. I'm not planning on flying IMC in my Pulsar but might have a look at the Skyview too... Now if only they had the radio and transponder built in now...
I to will have a few things to part with - AFTER I finish my import and get at least a few hours in the Pulsar before diving into the Panel this fall/winter. My vacuum pump and all the associated bits and pieces, 6 pack, King KY 97A and King digital transponder (can't remember the model), and a GRT engine monitor. All with about 260 hrs on them.

Thanks Dennis, That may be when I need it. I have been without the Pulsar since October with fuel tank issues that I just hadn't taken time to repair. We finished painting the wings today and I hope to be in the air by Saturday.
