The Europa Club 'Tour de France' will take place between Friday 2 June and 9
June. (or it could be a day later start if anyone still working joins and
needs to avoid breaking into another working week!)
This will involve a fairly gentle meander round France stopping at
places selected to offer good food & wine and touristic interest. Last
years itinerary was:
Troyes
Le Puy
Carcassonne
Arcachon
Angers (2 nights with a wine trip along the Loire in between!)
Belle Isle.
This year's route will be set once those joining the trip have given
me their requests or suggestions. Each day's flying is deliberately limited
to something in the 2 to 3 hr range, to allow time to look around the area
or lie about in the sun and hopefully to encourage wives to join. The trip
is ideal for anyone wanting an introduction to foreign touring as French
airspace is as benign and safe as it comes. There is also as much help as
anyone wants in dealing with flight plans, customs and other aspects of
foreign flying.
Anyone interested please contact me by email or phone 01454 260542
Regards, David Joyce

I have had problems with my broadband which now seem to be sorted. These
caused me to fail to receive several messages which I know were sent to me.
It may be that some were expressing interest in the Tour de France. Can I
ask anyone who did email me who has not had a reply to copy the email
originally sent, please?
Regards, David Joyce, G-XSDJ

David,
We won't be able to join you on the tour this year as we are in South
America and will be here until November. Hope that the tour goes without any
snags and that you all have good weather throughout the trip. Safe
flying....or is the term Blue skies?!
Regards,
Dari and Gail

dont have the skills to fly the aircraft (yet!) maybe next year. Have a
great trip.

The Tour de France will be from 3rd to10th June, and the outline itinerary
is: Amiens, Colmar Beaune, Grenoble/Albertville, Nimes, Libourne, Blois.
There is room for late joiners
Regards, David Joyce
David,
|
It occured to me that you may want to check the Albertville aerodrome
chart at
http://www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr/html/frameset_aip_fr.htm
As its use is restricted to aircraft based on nearby aerodromes, there
may be some paperwork to deal with.
For what it's worth,

Gilles, Many thanks, helpful as always. Careless of me to miss that in the
Bottlang! Perhaps we may arrange to meet up somewhere? We are a relatively
small party this year- 5 planes. Regards, David

David,
|
You're welcome.
The airplane I build with a buddy is based at Vienne (LFHH), a little
south from Lyon. Small grass field (2000 ft runway), 100 LL gas, no
landing fees. Not much hangar room, though.
Do not hesitate to publish your detailed itinerary on the list.

Hi David
Looks like a super itinerary.
The only slight issue is that for the option of La Fert Alais, LFFQ.
(Which I last flew into, wow was really 10 years ago!) I had to have
permission in writing beforehand from the museum specifying all the usual
details and that I had an obligation to speak in French. Which I fortunately
did. (I knew that French "A" level would come in handy one day).
The airfield would generally refuse casual access to all but home based
aircraft.
..........and yes hotels locally are impossible. The time when I flew in 10
years ago there was a rustic cheap hotel in the village, that has now gone.
The only things nearby now are the impersonnel Formule 1 type.
Giles do you see this as a realistic option for a group of Europas?
Regards
Bob

Bob and all,
|
The Amicale Jean-Baptiste Salis Association is in charge of the
airfield. I finally got them on the phone. Very friendly.
The gentleman said "why not", but needs precise details. Here is why :
they are preparing their airshow of 3rd and 4th June (lots and lots of
warbirds). The airfield will be closed the week before (NOTAM).
You can apply for an arrival after 4th June.
He gave a FAX number : +33-1-645 77655
Hope this helps,
