Joe Mathias in hospital

Many of you that have been on the Lightning list for some  time, or have been to one of the annual Lightning Fly-Ins or have read past  issues of the Lightning Newsletter will know Joe and Linda Mathias.  They  built one of the early Lightnings (well, not as early as "World Record Earl" or  Greg Hobbs) but their Lightning has been flying for probably more than 4  years.  This message is just to let everyone know that Joe went into the  hospital here in Virginia late yesterday.  No, it didn't have anything  to do with the earthquake.  Actually, Joe is still undergoing medical  tests, but right now the doctors think the major problem may have been  severe dehydration.  

  

 I visited Joe (and Linda) in his hospital room this  afternoon and, although he was sedated and on IVs, he did recognize me and at  least tried to talk.  I will try to visit again tomorrow and will provide  an update after that visit.  For now, I just wanted everyone to know that  one of the long time Lightning community folks needs your thoughts  prayers.  If you want to send encouraging emails to Joe, just send them to  the Lightning list and I will copy them and take them to Joe and Linda.
