Hi
To all the 4-tank-Zodiac XL-builders: Did you install access panels at the tank outlets for the outer tanks (to get access to the connection and the tank filter)? The space between nose rib #5 and #6 is rather limited (1/2 " approx.)...
On Zenith's plans are only access panels for the inner tanks.
Any advice?

Yes, I did, and you're right, there's not much room between those ribs. I'm hoping there will be just enough space to get a wrench in there if I ever have to pull the screens out, but haven't tried it yet.

Mike:
I will work on the outer tank connection today. As soon as I have photos of the installation I will post them on my website.
Thx, Martin

I just checked the space between nose ribs #5 and #6 (approx. 0.4 inch). It is hardly possible to install an access panel that also gives access to and allows changing of the finger filter. In my opinion it is impossible to change the finger screen at the outer tanks without removing the tank.
Well, how often does it happen that you have to change finger screen filters? It would be probably easier to flush the fuel line/finger screen/outer tank in a reverse way with water or so (for cleaning of the finger screen, after a certain amount of flight time).

I found the below in my "archives". I also believe I asked Nick at Zenith
about the lack of an access panel for the outboard aux tanks and received
the same reply, but could not find his reply. After studying the access
cover size, I figured it was marginal for any maintenance function and
possibly impossible to use. I did not install the finger screen access
covers for either inboard or outboard tanks.

Here's 2c worth about providing access to the fingerscreen ( fuel tank
outlet)
through the LE skin. If you want to put in the cover with its nutplates as
shown on the plans, leave a rivet-free zone when drilling the skin to the
noseribs
NR-3 & 4. It's not mentioned in the manual, and I had already drilled the
holes when I discovered it. ZAC doesn't have this on their demo ship, but
added
it to meet anticipated LSA requirements. I decided to cut the hole, and made
a cover to be riveted on with the skin.
