A question for those who are already flying their XL. Do the factory wheel pants do anything to improve the cruise speed of the aircraft or are they only cosmetic?

They'll give you about 5 or 6 extra knots.

Tim, I hate to admit it, but probably just for looks. I believe another shape
of pants might improve speed, but the ZAC pants are just too broad and fat to
do much. FWIW, Bill of Georgia

I just put my main wheel pants on yesterday. They are old RV4 pants. They work well, and look much better than the factory ones.

I still need to get my nose wheel pant finished (moulded off of the mains, but not on the airplane yet).

Ya...One day I might remove the top skin off the 601 to retrofit for C/S
screws...Before I give back the dimpler to its owner of course...Smile

Nice paint job Lance, did you do that yourself?

But do they reduce drag as well as the Zac ones?

Thanks folks!

Frank: My friend painted it for me. I'm really pleased with it. ...i may build a 7A next too!

Randy: pictures coming soon.

Dave: I couldn't say if they reduce drag any different from the ZAC ones. I would imagine they are already better, but once I clean up the inboard sides to better cover the brakes, it should help even more. They certainly look better.

...i'd better get those pictures up I guess!
