First, I also have the rear of the lower green bearing wearing out causing alot of play in the strut front to back.
Kicking my nose tire directly from the front confirms this. I'll replace mine also.
Second, if you look at the way I installed my plastic at the strut top it will stretch out the bungee
more making more friction like Fritz said. The way you did it John, by attaching the nylon to the top of the strut
cap will not stretch it, which is a really good idea. The only possible downside is the nylon is rotating over the
painted firewall instead of the metal cap rotating over the plastic could cause friction. I found everything worked good till paint
was applied and everything was stiffer. If you look near the top of my strut it looks chrome. I had lots of binding with the thick
grey paint around the bearing. I sanded that area to bare metal and put a very light coat of chrome paint and greased the
heck out of it. This eliminated lots of friction.
I also used the plastic at the V area and decreased but did not eliminate the V angles. This worked well to eliminate some
friction.

Using UHMW instead of Nylon66 for these bearings has helped alot per the advice given by this 1998 message from the Zenith List.
Originally I did everything in nylon.
You can get it from US plastics or McMaster Carr.

Even after all this I still have the same issues.
I'm getting used to it though and my landings are better.
