SUBJECT: hymenoplasty
Looks like another one of these wishful thinkers - or Florida fraudsters - pretending the aircraft they seek to unload meets LSA requirements and can be flown by a Sport Pilot when in fact it sure as hell cannot. Let me make this clear to y'all again:  once an aircraft has EVER been equipped, licensed, and/or flown outside LSA limits it can NEVER be "rehabilitated" and regain its virginity.
Obviously I do not have the paperwork on this bird in front of me nor have I checked its placards and tach markings to see if in fact the engine was rpm-limited at birth or the aircraft otherwise restricted below 120K max sustained cruise.  Still, all specs I have ever seen put the V-sub-H or equivalent of the Jab 3300 Esqual at 160mph or above and even the drippy, stinky, finicky Rotax loafs them along above 145mph ... both clearly outside the 138 limit.  Maybe OK if a 2200.
My principal regret after a satisfying career in military and civilian aviation is how honor and tradition have evaporated and safety progress suffered as a result of greed-driven cheating on pilot/airframe logbooks, cheating on factory assist build programs, and the arrival of used car salesmen making wild ass claims hoping to turn a profit or at least reduce a loss where lives or at least certificates and major investments are at risk.


You have thousands of honest people who pre-2005 bought Champs licensed at 1350 pounds, went for the D/E Ercoupe at 1400 vs others at 1260, Luscombes likewise,  or did simple STC gross weight increases on their little two seat trikes and taildraggers years ago putting them above 1320 who shrug, grin and bear the lost market now but don't pretend to still be LSA eligible.  Why is it 100% of the Esqual/Lightning sale notices here lately appear prima facie false in that respect?   I think it is the compilation of little lies effect but still inexcusable. as is Nick deriding concern about it.


These may well be wonderful airplanes and a good value for the private pilot and above, but Maximo Caveat Emptor if you are a student wisely starting your flying career gradually on sport pilot terms or a geezer seeking to extend and  finish out one without risking another iffy medical.  Don't just glance at the paperwork but have FSDO or a DAR review it for SP excedances that could ground both it and you.  Unless you're OK owning the world's most beautiful lawn ornament.


I would welcome documented correction, but don't anticipate it.

I have no intention to mislead anyone. The information that I posted was given to me by the builder when I purchased it. It is licensed as Amateur Built Experimental. Weight is 1280 and the prop is 64-51 which he said met the standard. At 1280 rpm it indicates 110 knots. Please accept my apology.

You are missing a very important part of the registration information. The FAA requires that the aircraft does not exceed 120 knots at see level . The FAA is well aware that the same aircraft can have a faster true ground speed at altitude and they were fine with it when they made the rules.

See page 142 of this FAA document for confirmation of the at see level thing.
