...Opinions and comments please.

Hello Roger,
Before I gap sealed my model 3, I couldn't do a 3-points landing, the plane would stall and touch the ground with the main gear first, even when I was with the stick in my stomach. Now, it's just perfect.
I don't notice any more sensibility in the pitch, only that little extra authority when the stick is entirely pulled and the plane is near stall speed.
Cheers,
Michel

I meant to ask you a while back on this subject: how is your CG?
|
Well, at my last annual, in March, the CG was exactly where it should be, maybe a few millimeter forward the center, which is marked on my wing. With the 582, the CG was a few millimeter aft of the center. Since then, I have a Jabiru and a battery moved behind the seats. For the reasons I explain in my previous email regarding the behaviour in the simulator, I feel better with a bit fore than aft of the center.
I gap sealed my wings one and half year ago. But last fall, the tapes felt off the outer part of the elevator. I cut those tapes so that I can inspect the hinges. Anyway, this winter, I flew with a "half gap sealing" and last week-end, after replacing those who were gone, I noticed a difference when landing. Once again, I was on a true three-points, the tailwheel meeting the ground at the same time as the main gear.
This being said, I have even gap sealed my rudder. Somehow, I feel that it will give me more authority in landing in a crosswind, to avoid weathervaning. But ... I haven't tried that one yet! Still, I figure that if it helps the elevator, it must also help the rudder because on my model 3, the gaps are exactly of the same size.
Cheers,
Michel
