Hello
I am building a Zenith CH701, and have installed Dynon D180. I am planning to cut the static port so it has a opening from the front, then bend it down at a 45 degree angle, and connect it to my AOA port behind the flightdek. Has anyone tried this, or can anyone comment on this idea.

Hi. I have a D180 also but I purchased the Dynon Pitot/static tube assy with it. In your case, if you put the bend as shown by the black line. Are you then going to cut the tube back so that there is only an inch or so of 45°? Or, instead of the bend as shown, you might put the bend an inch or so from the open end. That would leave the two tube ends closer together. if you make it as shown it looks kinda wild. But hey, why not,if it works.........Geoff

a few weeks ago I asked about using the zenith static port as a AOA port. I am now flying the plane, and it seems to work well. I don't have experience with the Dynon AOA probe, so I can tell how it compares. Here is a link to a video clip of the AOA in action

Quote: | Hey,The setup looks good and like it would work. But I did not see the AOA displayed on your
dynon in the video. Look at the attached picture, in the bottom left corner, its the
red/yellow/green thing. You have to go into the menu to display it. Once displayed, there
is a calibration procedure in the instructions that you have to do while doing power on and off
stalls.Brian a few weeks ago I asked about using the zenith static port as a AOA port. I am

You are right, at the time when I did the video, I had not calibrated the AOA yet. I have done so since, and the bar on the left of the screen is now active. I am thinking about bending the 45degree pipe a bit, and recalibrate, since I have to get rather close to stall before the green line starts to go retract.

I have the dynon pitot tube and the opening for the AOA is alot smaller than the opening for airspeed.
Maybe cap off the end of the AOA with JB weld and drill a very small hole in it.
