Mylar Gap Seal

Has any one tried using Mylar gap seal on the wing gaps i.e. Flaps, aileron, elevator and perhaps rudder (Z seal on one side in this area)
If you have, did you get any improvement in speed as a result?
The glider chaps have been using this stuff for years so there could be some advantage in fitting it to a Europa.

I just read Manuel Queiroz's Chasing the Morning Sun book about flying round the world in a RV6 (good read by the way) and he used them. Two came off over the Pacific in the dark making a very strange and worrying noise.
