Hi All,
Recently I had been getting low voltage readings in my Europa.
It has the 912S with a total of 125 hours on it.
I have an Odessey 680, 17ah battery, 2 years old.
It is basically wired as per the Europa supplied diagram.
I keep a Battery Tender Plus hooked up all the time.
I do not get a alternator light come on, except when I shut down.
The voltage reading on climb out yesterday on departure from home read 13.7 at one point.
After a 1.5 hour flight to Kentucky the voltage was probably around 12v.
On start up to taxi from the fuel pit to the restaurant it hit on the first blade and started quickly 1.5 hours later when we left for home.
Voltage slowly dropped on the way home when finally the EIS showed 10.9 volts on landing. I forgot to try to restart at that time.
I had turned off none essential stuff along the way. Pulled the breakers for the Art.Horizon, Turn Coord., turned off XPDR, then finally the radio except when we got close to home and the nearby class c.
I am thinking its only the battery What do you all think?
I have looked at all the posts I could search on here, and Aeroelectric,(very cumbersome search engine). None conclusive. I am wondering if it could be the regulator. The manuals aren't any help either.

Troy,
Have you checked the inline fuse?

Troy,
There are are many things but I had the same problem flying back from FL. last week. What I found was a bad ground or corroded ground going back thru the firewall. Fixed it today and she's charging again. It was as you described... no alternator light just a slow drop in voltage. Check your grounds everywhere. BTW: I have an extra regulator if you want to try it.

Hi Troy,
It happened twice to me : once when there was a missing jumper to the regulator, and once when I had a broken wire to the regulator. I now have two spare regulators, as the original never failed.
I have the same battery as you and others and it should be fine also.

Hey Folks,
Just wanted to say I fixed my low voltage problem. It turned out to be the regulator. I checked all connections having anything to do with the charging system,(most anyway). Then having a spare in my cross country box, I put it in and ran it and all is well again. Like I said, I have about 125 hours on it. I MAY have shortened it's life one day during shutdown when I turned off the master before the engine, not sure. The battery was actually 2 and half years old. The Odessey literature states only a two year warranty on the battery. Thanks for all your help. This once more proves the great worth of this forum. Need to make my contribution to Matt.

Hi Troy,
I did not see anything in your description to suggest battery malfunction.
It did sound exactly like a failure of the charging system. Sounds like your
2.5 year old battery performed admirably in keeping you going by itself
when the regulator failed.
The approriate diagnostic test is to check the battery voltage (at the
battery) while the engine is running. If it is not > 13.5V, the charging system is belly up.
Cheers,
Ira

Ira,
Yes the battery performed as it should. The only charging was in the hangar with the Battery Tender Plus. You are correct about reading battery voltage. My monitor was checking it as I flew along but I did not check it at the battery.
