Kolb Friends –
After reading Bob’s post, I reflected on my own flying over the past year, and concluded that I think I also had a good year of Kolb flying. But not because I flew a bunch of hours – a metric that so many people I know use to qualify if they’ve had a “good” year of flying or not. (One guy I know complains that he’s had a miserable year of flying if he logs less than fifty hours in any year.)
For me, it’s not so much the total number of hours I fly in a year, but total FLIGHTS.
So far, I’ve taken nearly thirty flights in my Mark-3 since the beginning of this year – an excellent year so far for me, even though my total 2011 flight time totals to only 36 hours. Heck – John Hauck flew more hours than that in ONE trip to the Rock House. I don’t fly many cross-country trips, but rather, I enjoy lots of local flying. It’s what my life’s schedule allows – about three visits to the airstrip per month, on average.
Like most of us, I always wish I could fly more, but I still believe I had a good year of Kolb flying! I’m happy I got to launch into the sky thirty times this year in the Kolb I built in my garage. And I didn’t break anything.
And I also hafta agree with Bob Bean – zero maintenance over the year helps make it a good year, too!
