Going out to the airport today to be with my instructor, he is receiving, from the FAA, the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50 years of safe piloting. He was in the Air Force from the mid 50 through mid 70's and consistantly owned grumman airplanes since the original 1969 Yankee that he flew back and fourth from Spokane Wa. to Bedford In. during leave time. When he retired he was an FBO at his home airport aa well as the Madison airport which he flew between and also become a Grumman dealer during this time, through the end of the production in 1979. He has consistantly flown and taught in these wonderful airplanes from their inseption straight through today and even used them to fly charted small automotive freight packages for many years. I seriously doubt if any pilot has more Grumman hours. I know he has in excess of 30,000 PIC but will ask if he knows how many in type. I want to thank him for teaching me in a AA5A in 1994 and being a friend ever since.
Please give a hand for Ralph Rodgers in Madison Indiana on this special day.
