We flew 626 to Lancaster yesterday to get a pitot-static test done.
When Larry bought the plane, it would max out at about 130 knots. It was a real slug for a Tiger. 2 overhauled cylinders, overhauled prop and new wheel pants an it does 140 knots true at 5000 feet.
The autopilot works too. It had been disconnected because the trim was frozen solid.
The landing lights (I landed after sunset) are a joke. Why in the world would anyone prefer those wingtip lights????
I took the left one apart today to fix it so it didn't point at the sky. Talk about a hammered installation. At least it points 50 feet ahead now. There is no way to get the lights to point toward the middle. They are recessed too deep to have turning them have any effect.
Give me a simple single landing light, in the middle, any day.

Your right in that the original wing lights are crap.
On 9186M, I put the 50W XeVison HIDs on the wings with the flasher option and have more than enough light for landing. They are nicknamed, the "Blowtorches". Not only do they provide a ton of light for landing, but I leave them on flash all the time day or night. Ive had the tower at KRNM even comment on them saying they are so much easier to pick out in the haze on some days.
Aside from the obvious fact that the original lights aren't that bright anyway, the positioning of lights on the wing eliminate the issue of "vibration induced" failures of the incandescent bulbs. I have a 172 that I rent and I simply had enough of replacing that damn light. Finally went LED.
As far as 626FT, it will be nice to see how it trues out when we get a Jaguar on it with that new induction system.

I know some people light the wing tip lights. Yea, they look like a big airliner. They look cool. Brightness isn't the issue. Other planes/pilots seeing me 25 miles away isn't the issue. When landing and taxiing, I want to see the MIDDLE of the runway and taxiway. I'm not interested in seeing what happens on the edges of the runway/taxiway.
The installation of the lights on an AG5B PROHIBITS aiming them at the centerline, even if you wanted to. They sit too far into the wing and the opening is too narrow.
I hear all the time about how the landing lights don't last in a Grumman. I think I've replaced the one in mine once in 500 hours. But, then, I only use it to land at night and taxi to my hangar.
Dave has the design of the new inlet for the Jaguar cowling for an AG5B.

Has anyone installed Powerburst Lights by Aveo Engineering http://www.aveoengineering.com/Aviation/Airplane_LED_Lights/index.php. Of course the certified are more expensive than the non certified. I was planning on installing marker lights.

Yeah, we put a set on a non-Grumman. Nav/Strobe combo on the wingtips.
Got FAA approval, which wasn't that hard, but took 3 months while it waited on their backlog.

Gary, can you expand on this? Are you adding this to the Jag STC?
It would be great if I could participate in this and get rid of the AA5B
airbox.

the AA5B airbox is a better inlet.
I'll expand more when the time is right.
