Just wanted to say that I'm extremely happy with the install of my 10 bar aeroclassics cooler on my jab 3300. I'm flying a zodiac 601 HD in Texas, we had record heat this year. With my 10 bar cooler, at 108 degrees f the engine ran within it's parameters right at 210. I did have to open the oil cooler cowl opening about 3/4" to accomodate the extra depth, but if done carefully the FG/bondo work is minimal. Just makea clean cut down the middle, on both sides, open it up 3/4" or so and then glass it in.

I will say that I could have spent more time tweaking every single baffle seal, cooler duct and working more magic, but in the end... The 10 bar cooler was an acceptable solution and the temps are very cool even in extreme conditions. I'd at least recommend looking into it if you're likely to encounter temps over 95 degrees for a while. That's my pirep. I can't say that if I'd have screwed around with it for another 10 hrs of flight testing I couldn't have gotten the temps down, just that installing the 10 bar was probably easier, and gives a better margin for even worse conditions. i.e. flying to OSH in late July from Texas while heavy.

Now I'm working on getting better cold starts, but I at least think I know what the issues are. I enrichend the idle mix today and made sure the throttle was closing fully. It has made a difference so far. BUt I wont know until I let the engine get cold again and try tomorrow. After all, the 3300 never has a prob starting if its even "kind of" warm. 95 hrs and very happy so far. The Jab just takes a little tweaking and the understanding that this is experimental, so experiment (a little) or to your own level of comfort.

Greetings from Idaho, another state with large temperature fluctuations.
Do you have any photos of your cooler installation & cowling modifications?
Thanks, Mack

You'll notice I had to cut the bottom off of the cowl around the cooler to get the coil cooler to fit. This was kind of dumb and only made for more glasswork. A nice clean slice down both sites with a pice of scap aluminum and a few temp rivets to hold in place (spreading it about 3/4") works well untill the glass cures. If you slice all the way down both sides all you need to do is pry it appart lightly. And the oval opening will remain symetrical. Hindsight though. I'm sure each install and fitting of the cowling is slightly different. I've heard reports from some that they didn't have to modify the cowl at all, but then the oil cooler inlet still remains the same size which probably doesn't make it as effective as it could be. This has produced nothing but positive results for me.
