|
|
I recently purchased a nice used Narco AT-165 transponder from a third party. Luckily, it came with a harness. Unfortunately, it did not come with installation instructions. The harness has a 23 pin connector on the transponder side and a 15 pin connector on the altitude reporter side. Three heavier wires (I believe 16 ga.) are cut to about 4 inches in length, coming out of the 23 pin connector. I am assuming these are the power leads, red (+14V), black (Grnd), and yellow (?). That's my question; what should this yellow wire attach to? It comes out of pin #12 on the connector. I can't seem to find any wiring instructions on the internet for this 23 pin transponder.

Traditional avionics color coding makes the red wire power, the black wire ground, and the yellow wire the dimmer.
Here’s a link to the AT-165 installation manual. It says that pin 5 is +13.75 V input, pin 11 is the 14 V dimmer, and pin 12 is ground. Perhaps the yellow wire is going to pin 11 instead of pin 12? And I think it may be a 24-pin edge connector, with 12 pins on each side.
Hope this helps you get everything sorted out!

Narco did one thing right. All of their transponders use the same tray
and pin connections. So pinout for AT50 or 150 will work.
