Two questions
<![if !supportLists]>1. <![endif]>thermocouple position and common problems with cylinder head temperature gauge. Previously has worked flawlessly, now I have initially 20° drop in numbers, and occasionally the needle swings a little. I assume I have a high resistance joint somewhere, back of the dial is OK, so advice as to the position of thermocouple, type and replacement gear before I start pulling things apart
<![if !supportLists]>2. <![endif]>fuel tank gauges in my 18 T have worked beautifully up until recently. We calibrated the gauges, filling the fuel from absolutely dead empty right through to 360 L total as I have auxiliary tanks. Given the die he drill in the wing, we read 180 L total, but actually have about 240 L on board. I now have no response, as the fuel comes down to a known level, that is clearly about 40 L remaining on the inboard tank. Any suggestions?
Cheers SG

Hello Stewart,

not sure if I understand the setup of your fuel system on the 18 T . But some time ago we had a sudden misreading of the fuel gauge as well, showing only 40 litres with full tanks. Then we found out that the float which is made of foam plastic material has shrunk a lot and was no longer able to float in gasoline. I then made new floats from stainless steel .2mm and soldered with soldering iron or micro torch. You´d need a special flux for stainless though. So you better pick brass sheet for copying the floats - saves you a lot of offensive language ....

Cheers

Servus Vic,

I have to say that you are a genius.

Your skills and craftsmanship is outstanding,
thank you for sharing your ideas.

Where others talk - you do, too bad
you are 9000 km away.

Take care.

Grüaß Di , Elmar,

great, you did not sell your Nanchang ! We all are waiting for some pictures about your activities on the plane -- not yet finished to present to the public ? Sure enough I could post some more photos about mods but first I´d like to do real tests on the Yak. But unfortunately since last August most Russian registered aircraft in Europe have been grounded by their respective CAA, after the Federation of Private Pilots has been made illegal by the Russian Transport Ministry. So here we are in a fight with authorities for a fresh reg, still undecided if this will be Lithuanian, Hungarian, German, San Marino, or a new Russian registration. Each of these options has its own specific drawbacks, so I will post any news that definitely prove to work. But we expect to need another few months of fighting for the air.

Cheers

Vic

P.S. Elmar, please forward my compliments to Manuela.

Vic,
We are working with some L-39s in Europe. Send an email to me offline. We have a workable solution. I'll fill you in.

PS: San Marino is no longer a viable solution.
