Pete, I have received your coment on how I was wrong on the layout of the 3300 valves, but I was hoping for some insite to my problem rather than the way I discribed it. This problem has now surfaced in Europe and I was hoping for help for it will be showing up here soon. The valve guides on the exhaust are wearing out in less the 100 hours.
Will there be anyone from Jabiru Au at Sun & Fun that I can talk to? Tex

Tex,
Here in the UK guides were found "worn" at less than 50hrs. Careful measurement showed they were exactly 7.50mm bore, where the standard guide should be 7.05mm. Looks suspiciously like human error!
Once the batch passed through the system, that particular problem went away. Not sure what serial number engines were affected.
The majority of the oil fed to the heads is dumped on the inlet valve rather than the exhaust which really needs it. Try to persuade it to go where it would do more good - see Jabiru info on French site "Contrails" for some ideas.

Our experience has been that few of the engines show excessive valve guide wear. After selling nearly 1/3 of all Jabiru engines out in service, I don’t sell many valve guides. We have just completed several 1000 hour top overhauls and found almost all the valve guides to be in good shape. There are over 20,000 valve guides in engines that I’ve sold and we sell a few dozen replacements each year. I don’t think we are seeing a big problem but obviously a worn valve guide is a problem for an individual owner.

Nick, thanks for the info. Have come to the same conclusion that the guides were oversize for all the cylinders wore the same. Again thanks for the info. Tex

Martin, you are probably right. But I'd love to see some statistics about the number of warranty claims that Jabiru actually honors, even on obvious manufacturing issues like this. I'm not talking about dealers absorbing the pain, but the factory actually acknowledging a flaw and fixing it on their expense. And to differentiate, I would count out those folkes lucky enough to be within driving/flying distance so they can show up at the Jabiru doorstep.
