Does anyone have a taildragger dragger for the 50? What brand do you have, does it work well, would you change it or is there a different one you would get?
Thanks

Josh,
I modified a "Dragger" and then modified a power tug. Will have to take pix of it.

The tailwheel of the Yak 50 is a source of problems for almost every Yak 50.
I personally consider it a weak point and I already had a lot of trouble
with it.
So I'm not so sure whether it's a good idea to move the 50 by dragging her
on the tailwheel.
But maybe I misunderstand this, can you show some pictures? I'm very
interested.

Jan and Josh,
www.dragger.com is the website of the tail dragger that I used to modify.
They have powered draggers as well as manual. The powered version came
since I converted my dragger handle so that it would work with my power tow
tug.
The unit lifts the tail wheel off the ground as well as keeps the fork
facing aft not rotated 180 deg facing forward when pushing the plane into
the hanger. The risk of over centering the tail wheel strut comes with
pushing the plane into the hanger over the hanger door tract and the
concrete flooring lip. Also the risk to the tail wheel strut comes from
leaving the tail wheel fork facing forward when stored in the hanger. If the
pressure in the shock absorber is low the tail wheel strut will over center.
I always jack the tail of my 50 up when it is going to sit for a while to
take the weight off of the tail wheel. That is not a big deal for me
currently since my 50's empennage is resting on a cradle just aft of the
cockpit to level the aircraft for instillation of the engine. :^)) No
pressure on the tail wheel that way.

Thanks Doc,
So the conclusion is that you have to be careful anyway, isn't it?
I've dismounted the oleo and the whole tailwheel several times, and I
conclude that it's not a very strong structure (on purpose ?).
That's why I'm a bit worried when the whole Yak 50 is pushed, pulled on that
tailwheel structure.
It seems that your modification deals with that, and I would appreciate it
if you'd send a picture of it, occasionally?
I also used to have my 50 with the tailwheel lifted in the hangar to
diminish the pressure in the oleo (supporting the tail on the "eye" behind
the wheel) but in my case it did not prevent the oleo from loosing pressure
anyway, until I had it overhauled.
BR,
Jan
