Gents,

I know that smoke systems have been discussed in the past, but mostly for the Yak. Would one of you have a solid recommendation for a system to be used with the CJ?
I've read about this company, but have also heard pros and cons.

I've attached a picture of the Smoking Airplanes model that seems to make the most sense for the CJ. Anyone have experience with this company?
And for basic air show and demonstration stuff, would a 5.5 gallon tank be enough, or would something larger be the better idea?
Thanks for your insights. Much appreciated.

Hi Yakker's,

Does anyone know what the white plastic knob is for? It's the one with the russian writing on it. The aircraft is a series II 18T.

I installed the 3.5 gallon tank, Warren.
It's adequate for the formation flybys we typically do for local airshows.

I have the 5.5G kit in my CJ and have had it for over 5 years. It is a great system. It lasts about 8-10 min depending on how you have the valve adjusted (I keep it at 1/3 open).

Hi all. Great topic and very timely for me. I find myself having to make a completely portable smoke system. Can someone please tell me the make and model number of the pump most people are using and how many gallons per hour and at what psi, and is the pump 12volt or 24 volt?. Thanks very much. Coop.

I would personally go for the larger tank. I have the 5 gal with smoke on both stacks and it is never enough. By never enough, if I had an hour worth of smoke it still would not be enough but every minute counts. You haven't lived until climbing up to 10k and drawing a smiley face!

Word on the install, make sure the fill line is as straight as possible, I have a bend in mine and it is difficult to fill as air can't escape unless I open the tank lid.

Guys,

Thanks to everyone for pointing me in the direction of John Manduca at www.smokingairplanes.com Spent close to half an hour on the phone with him putting together a system that will be best for what I'm looking to do with my CJ. Very knowledgeable about CJs and Yaks. Great resource.

Coop, give John a call at (661) 713-9050. He may have the answer you're looking for.

Hi all. Great topic and very timely for me. I find myself having to make a completely portable smoke system. Can someone please tell me the make and model number of the pump most people are using and how many gallons per hour and at what psi, and is the pump 12volt or 24 volt?. Thanks very much. Coop.
