I just got down from the roof of the building I work in. We watched the Space Shuttle Discovery do its tour of DC atop its 747 carrier. It made 2 passes very close to our building (we are under the flight path for National Airport) with a T-38 in trail. I'd attach a picture, but we aren't allowed to have cameras, here.
Very cool. And a bit sad.
Thought all you aviation junkies might be interested.

Yes very sad to see the whole program retired

I worked at the Air Force Rocket Propulsion Laboratory from 1982 to 1993. I saw a lot of shuttle landings and passes. I also got to watch one of the engines being tested. Yes, it is sad to see that program ending.
One of my favorite memories is watching an SR-71 doing a high speed fly-by about 50 feet off the ground just before they were retired. Full after burner climbout. At the time, I was working Fight Test on main base Edwards. I was on the flightline for one of my F-16 programs when the SR-71 went by.

Was it supersonic at 50'?
Was fuel leaking from it or is that a myth?

Don't recall any fuel leaking. He was in a banked angle to the flight line about 1/3 mile away and if I had to guess, he was doing about 300 knots. Not much faster (or closer) than the planes that go by at Reno.
