Hi All

Just a quick warning regarding the tank level tubes used on some kits.

My Kitfox 7 supplied in 2003 used a tank sight tube design which incorporated hard butyrate tube that you heat formed to the required 'U' shape. This was then attached to the tank with 'Fast and Tite' connectors from Parker. Last week I had a petrol leak from one of the top fittings, on inspection I found that this had occurred because over the years the butyrate tube had developed a waisting in the area of the 'O' ring fitting caused by the constant pressure of the 'O' ring.

Apparently the factory no longer supply this type of design and have reverted to the brass barbed fittings used on earlier designs.

In the winter I shall change the fittings to use the latest design.

David,
This was fairly common and I suspect the reason the factory went back to the old way. One way to reduce the waisting tendency is to insert an appropriately dimensioned drilled rod into the tube. The talk then was that a small hole drilled in the rod would reduce the fuel movement in the tubes during turbulence. My current project has the flexible tubing with a stiff wire inside that pretty much gives the same shape as the butyrate tube - I didn't like the giant fittings necessary for the stiff tubing.

Can one of our Kitfox listers tell me where I can get new tires for an early model Kitfox? It had NanChing(sp)
that fit inside the wheel pants but now I can't find them sold anywhere. Is there a different brand that is used now?
I'd sure appreciate any help with this matter.

Thanks Much, Ron   (asking for Robert Beck, model 4)

I'm using Carlisle Turf-Glide tires. Here's a lot of places to buy them.

Measure your existing ones and the space available in your wheel pants carefully and
talk to a salesman to make sure what you buy will fit. When I mounted mine I lubed the
wheels and it still took close to 100 psi to get them to pop onto the wheels. Scared
me when then made such a loud pop. Both took about the same pressure. I like the wavy
rib pattern and the fact that they are so tight on the wheels that I can run them with
a pretty low pressure without worrying about them spinning on the wheel with hard
braking.

Ron,

I think the brand of your tires are Nankang. At least one place sells Nankang in slicks but I'm not sure if they'll fit under your wheel pants:
