I know that every one has paint on their fingers as a subject line, but in an effort to keep paint from becoming as tiresome a subject as Sea Foam, I would offer this. Smile

John mentioned the other day that he had cut his pitot tube at a 45 degree angle in an effort to keep from getting an inaccurate reading when in landing configuration. Like most things that John has to offer, I thought that this might just be worth doing. So I did. Today was the first day for me to fly in quite a while. The weather has been just a little bit cranky and I have done other things instead.

My ASI had been reading a bit high compared to my GPS. Not too much, but about 4-5 MPH. This time when I took off I noticed right away that it was reading a lot slower. My first reaction was to lower the nose to get some more airspeed, then I remembered that I had modified the tube. My indicated airspeed was now reading a few MPH under the reading from the GPS, but much closer to what I considered the true airspeed. I did a stall, and found that my stall occurred just where it always did. It is very possible that the angle that I cut was closer to 20 degrees than 45, so I am wondering with the right angle cut would it read closer to what my GPS is telling me?

It was a beautiful morning and the air was crystal clear, and I took video's of the Owyhee for about 39 miles. If I get ambitious I may post a bit of it on the web.

I also reached a milestone today. I finally filled a log book today. It only took me 15 years to fill it completely full. Pretty pathetic! 342 hours just piddling around, legally of course. Another couple of hundred as a fat UL.
