Hello everyone.  After lurking for a couple of months, this is my first post here.  Last February I purchased a '76 Tiger (N74429) and I have spent the past few months enjoying it.  I am now at the point where I would like to start addressing a few minor issues with it, and I could use your help with them.

  

The first is that the post light on the Turn & Bank gauge doesn't light.  The problem appears to be that there is no ground connection to the barrel of the post.  I get 0-13 volts DC at the center terminal inside the post (depending on the position of the dimmer) when I use another ground away from the post.  But there is no voltage if I try to ground the meter anywhere along the inner wall of the post.  I've tried scraping and cleaning the inner wall with no improvement.

  

I thought that these posts were grounded thru the stud that threaded into the gauge below (possibly with a nut threaded onto the stud behind the flange of the gauge).  But if that's correct, I can't see how it could fail to ground itself.  I've tried turning the post slightly, but that did not correct the situation.  Any thoughts about what's going on and how to correct the ground are appreciated.  If it involves going behind the panel, though, it is probably above my current capabilities.

  

By the way, I'm very happy with the lighting otherwise.  The plane has about 4 gauges with internal lighting, and the rest of the circular gauges have post lights.  They are all very easy to see at night.  Even without its post light, the T&B gauge is easy enough to see.  So I am not looking to completely revamp my lighting for this small issue.  But would like to fix it, if I can.

Barry, replace the post light with a NuLite.  You'll be a lot happier.
