Hello all , yesterday ZU-CWJ was participating in a corporate function. Her is the scenario.
Pilot : Comm +700 hrs
250 on yak 52
Aerobatic rating
Aerobatic display rating
Aircraft : Yak 52 1985
AF TT 876
Eng TT 1850 smoh 425
After 2 pax flights he loaded the 3rd pax and took off , fuel on board 45/50
Oil +8L
After climb out , as he throttled back an audible “crump” was heard and the engine lost all power, as if it was set to idle (38%)
Pilot cycled the throttle the engine momentarily tried to pick up revs but failed and continued to mill as if in and idle.
Pilot closed the flaps and the gear and converted height into speed putting the aircraft down wheels up on the beach on the downwind leg of the circuit, no injuries
The prop is shorter and some structural damage to the tail section and rudder /elevator from the surf.

Post recovery :
Tanks: both had fuel
Oil: 8 litres
Prop: can still be rotated
Throttle fully functional both to Max and min
Any possible suggestions?

If the prop can be rotated, check the following:
Compressions on all cylinders
Engine timing - verify the engine timing on both magnetos.
Let me know what you find out with these two checks. We'll proceed from
there after these two checks.

Did you have a chance to look at fuel and oil pressure?

Good morning Rodger, firstly thank you for your kind consideration as far as im aware the pilot did confirm the run up procedure before the take off and confirms all was in order also on the level out glanced at the oil and was satisfied all was ok, in the subsequent high pressure situation did not have time to verify that information.

Morning to you also Brad...more like early Monday morning now down under.
I can speculate on what caused the loss of power but the tear down will answer the majority of your questions. Having gone through an engine issue one year ago now, the obvious as speculated was not the answer. They were close but no banana. Wait for the tear down. The answers will be forthcoming. Tough to do in this age of instant gratification for sure but the answer at tear down may surprise you. It did for me.
Glad all walked away without injury.
From there to this, it was not what I thought as revealed by the tear down. It was maliciously introduced FOD. Bottom line, it will be a better plane when done as yours will be also.

Dear all, Its quite emotional, seeing the aircraft you have tendered so
carefully lying on the beach , helpless was really came to mind, but even
more precious than this was all the encouragement off this particular forum,
Thanks to Dennis , and Rodger , Jill and Mike Beresford. May we long
continue to build the community through these kind and considerate replies,
they are ostensibly the very back bone of the yak community.
I will wait to see what the CAA here recommend , (not really confident that
they will even pitch up to inspect the situation.)
Hopefully we will be able make a speedy and complete restoration
