You have to split the case anyway to change cams..... The lobe profile for a roller cam is entirely different then a flat tappet cam lobe profile. While the case is split the machining can be done..

Superior does not make a 6 cylinder roller tappet camshaft but does have roller tappets. The only way to convert a 540 is to send it to the factory for a reman/exchange, but it will be in a certified conversion and you probably have to have the original data plate and engine logs. They have not made field overhaul kits available. I understand there is one engine shop that is machining cases for roller tappets, but it is not us, and I believe you may have to have a specific case set to do the conversion. Lycoming use to not sell their roller tappets for after market. (You use to have to return any LRT tappets for an exchange on new ones.) They may have changed their position on that issue.

More importantly, are you definitely set that you want to do the conversion? What benefit are you seeking?
