Bill,

I have an SL-30 you could use as a test, if nobody has coughed up one
already. I'm based at TTA (though the SL-30 is in an under-construction
plane in the fuselage sitting in my garage). I work in RTP, so a detour
to 8NC8 after work isn't completely unreasonable. Another alternative
would be to meet at TTA for a quick test. Let me know what works for you
and we'll make a plan.

I just returned from trip out west in my RV10 N215TG. Just before
landing at the absolute furthest point away from home, my SL30 stopped
working (partially). Fortunately I have a G430 with Comm to back it
up thought that required a bit of work to make work.

Anyway, I'm back home in Durham (Lake Ridge 8NC8) and need to swap my
SL30 with a working SL30 to confirm it's disfunction. Once I send it
in to Garmin, I understand it will cost $800 no matter what they find
so I want to make sure it's not working.

Does anyone have a working SL30 that I can fly to and do a momentary
swap with. I can pretty much assure you that my installation won't
damage ycoour unit. In fact, my SL30 powers up, tunes freqs, and
otherwise appears to be working. But it won't communicate.

The only other culprit could be the PMA 9000 EX. Hopefully a swap
will narrow it down to one or the other.

Thanks in advance,
Bill Watson

Bill,

I have an SL-30 in my RV8 and I had to do the same thing earlier to confirm operation.

I am based at Gastonia KAKH just west of CLT.  If you want to come over I'll be happy to help.  Confirm your unit is a Garmin and not the Apollo version.  I was not able to get an Apollo SL-30 to seat in my Garmin SL-30 rack.  Everything looked the same but the Apollo would not fit and the Garmin would.

Anyhow if you need me give me a call
