Hi All
Which kind of hose and fixation system do you use to drain the oil from the main oil Sump?
Could you show some pictures?
Thanks

To drain the main oil sump, I have a very high tech system - 5' of plastic rain gutter and bucket from the local hardware store. Has worked elegantly for 11 years.

Gotcha beat Blitz. A 2 2/2 foot tall step ladder positioned delicately under the shut off valve on the sump with a 5 gal. Home Depot bucket position so as to catch the oil stream. Of course the chin cowl has to have been removed from the aircraft for this to happen without a huge mess.
Naturally the next step would be to pull the chip detector oil screen after the sump has drained otherwise pulling the chin cowl would be a big pain for something that a 8 mm I.D. PCV clear plastic hose passed through the louvers and slipped over the nipple on the sump drain to drain into a bucket on the hanger floor would do. You need about 5.5 feet of that type of hose to do that.

One of the mods I have seen (and actually had one installed on my engine when it was purchased) puts an electric pump in with a permanent attachment to the sump drain fitting. Actuating a switch pumps the oil back into the main tank. Of course it makes cleaning the screen rather problematic, but it does work.

Oliver,
I drain the M-14P oil sump into a paper painter's funnel that has a very fine mesh screen at the bottom. It's temporarily held in place with some cable lacing and drains into a plastic bucket directly underneath. I never expect to find any metal chips, bit it's always nice to know that they are not there.

5/8" heater hose 3.5' long into a 5 gallon bucket for the sump. 5/8" heater hose 5' long from the oil tank to the bucket. A twist of safety wire on the ends of both to hang on a nail above a trash can to finish dripping out on a couple of paper towels after the change prevents a later mess as well.
