Ouch; that hurt. I have NEVER had anyone in the back seat of Suzie Q, a
glove-fitting RV-4 that got, complained of or hinted of claustrophobia, and
I have had a great variety of folks back there. "Wow!!! You can see
EVERYWHERE from back here!!!" "This is the coolest thing I have ever done!!
Thanks!!!" Front seat of a -8? WAY to much room up there. Feel like I'm
rattling around. Where do you put your arms in turbulence or to steady
throttle hand in formation? I LOVE the way I FIT in the front seat of Suzie
Q. Love it. More like a feeling of putting the airplane ON, than just
getting IN. And I am up there in the front office all by my self. Great view
either side, inline thrust vector and roll vector for aerobatics. Course, it
is all what you were raised on and what you are used to.
Pilot in front, navigator/RIO/PIB in back, the way it was meant to be. At
least for some of us, OF COURSE, not all. Are there more side-by-sides
flying? Yes. Do I want one? No. Are there more nose wheels flying? Yes.
Would I want one? No. Just an opinion and the only arrangement I prefer
MYSELF, mind you, to fly with.
Of course that will all change if I build a -10. I could do the Piper PA-12
Super Cruiser arrangement with pilot in front and two passengers in the
back.
Naaaaaaaa; that would be a bad suggestion, one most readers would either
delete or pass up, and some would make a cryptic comment about. Recurrent
theme, here.
IMVHO, YMMV

Perhaps you could make a mod to the -10 and make it quad inline seating.
There's enough length for 4 people, and it would allow some
very wide people to fit....although not in CG possibly.

I assume you have heel cups or have never flown anyone who has flown with
them & then gotten into your back seat.
WAY to much room in the front seat of an -8 ?.
You will then absolutely hate any Rocket 'cause it has lots more of the
same.
Where do you put your arms in turbulence ??,
With one hand on the stick & the other on engine controls AND properly
belted in the wide open space so as to not turn shoulders black & blue
banging them off the interior hard parts of a too tight cockpit.
But then again as one ages things can get difficult, like getting in & out
of my LT-1 C-4.
BUT that's just IMNSHO (In My Not So Humble Opinion). 8*)
KABONG HRII N561FS aka RV-4 on steroids.

Think I agree Michael.=20
Although my -8 has yet to fly, when I sit in it the first thing I =
noticed is the lack of 'intimacy' that I get in RVotter (my RV-4). =
I'll love the ability to load a weeks worth of camping gear and wife =
Laura in the -8 but I can already tell I will always have a soft spot =
for the -4.

Nothing personal Michael but I did not like the back seat of a RV-4.
Just a statement of fact not meant to hurt anyone's feelings.
