Hello Guys,

I hope that somebody that have a Rotax 914 can help me

Last weekend, when I was going to take off, I advance the throttle to full and then advance the lever to engage the turbo, I fill when the turbo kick in for a few seconds but then then I fill the engine loose power like if I move the lever back to disengage the turbo. I abort the take off and get back to the hangar. Thinking that the problem was old fuel, I remove completely the fuel, put new fuel, new plugs, clean the air filter, clean carburetors, start the engine and everything was OK. Since is was late, I don't fly it.

Today I start my engine ROTAX 914 Turbo and during the warn up, around 3 minutes of engine running at 2,000 RPM, the Amber Warning TCU light, blink 3 times and then stop blinking.

The Engine is installed on a Magni Gyro and it has 248hrs

This was my EIS reading when this happened:

Fuel Pressure: 6.5psi
Engine RPM: 2,000
Oil Temp: 95ยบ
EGT: 1,000
CHT: 120

I was checking the Rotax 914 Trouble Shooting Manual and its says that if this Amber TCU warning light blink, its mean that there can be a problem in:

Wiring Sensor
Sensor damage
TCU Failure
Air Box Leakage
So where you recommend me to start looking for the problem?

THX

Isaac

Check the static air pressure sensor and air box pressure sensor connections. Blow the connectors out with air and to the same with the TCU unit,.
Is you TCU mounted with the plug upwards on the mast if so be very careful with water and blow out with air .

Good luck

Hi Isaac
I was wondering if you eventually found out what this gremlin was, I have experienced the exact symptoms, on my 914/Gyro combo. I am in South Africa and my search seemed to point me to this forum. I would appreciate if you or someone could post a response to what the cure was.
Kindest regards

Hi Peter,

All the necessary manuals for the Rotax 914 are available free, without signing up, from the site: Rotax-Owner.com

But I would highly recommend signing up for full site access. The learning videos are very good if you have the internet bandwidth to support them.

I don't have a cure for you because you don't specifically provide the conditions in which you have the blinking orange lamp. It is normal for all the TCU lamps to light and blink on application of power to the system. This indicates a normal startup system check is occurring and all is well when they all go out. During operation, this is another matter.

According to the Rotax 914 Operators Manual "Section 4.4.3) Orange caution lamp of the TCU blinking

In case of blinking of the orange caution lamp of the TCU, this has to be recorded by the pilot in the logbook, stating the duration exact time and extent of exceeding limits.

NOTICE: If the manually controlled variable is not possible, then turn off the servo motor.

Possible cause: Indicates a failure of a sensor, sensor wiring, TCU, or leakage in the airbox.
Remedy: Reduce speed and boost pressure manually to be within the operating limits. Limited flying operation, as this may indicate the boost pressure control isno more or insufficiently possible and may affect engine performance."

Can you provide more detailed information about the situation of your blinking orange light?
