L-Angle Part No?

Do any Zenith builders know a part no. for an L-angle .040t and 19mmx19mm?

I was hoping that I could get a part that corresponds to a 601/650, 701/750. or 801.

I'm building a 640, but to order parts from Canada I pay three times the cost of the parts in shipping. If I can get a drawing no from a locally built kit, I can order from the good ol USA, and not pay an arm and a leg for shipping. Called Zenith and the old lady says she knows only one l angle and it's .025 thick. She wasn't going to lift a finger to look any further. I'm sure that there's more than one kind of angle in the other kits, just don't have a set of plans to look it up.

Hi Craig,



I agree with the response you got from Zenith.  All the "L" parts on my 

CH601XL are .025 thick.



You should be able to get a local sheet metal shop to bend some metal 

for you.  The details that are important are the alloy (6061-t6) and the 

bend radius (probably 1/8").

For the 701, they are just a standard "L", no real part number, but they are the 0.025" thick parts. Without making some yourself, you might have rely on calling Zenith again. Did you call Zenair or Zenithair? 

Zenair.com is in Canada and Zenithair.com is in Missouri.

I don't know of a 0.040 L in the 601 or 701.



FWIW I bend my own 0.025 standard L's is a simple wooden press brake. The

same technique should work for 0.040. I wrote an article on this for the

Zenith newsletter in 2009. If you are interested I can e-mail you the text

and photos.

The specs for the L-angles are specified in some of the up-front documentation, (builders general instructions) and when I received them the only part number on the label was "L Angle".

Craig, the "generic" L angles do not have part numbers, they are simply marked "L" in the plans and they are 0.025" thick.  Is there any other clue you can provide so people can try to locate your particular L angle in the plans? For instance, is it in the wings, fuse, tail feathers? If you don't mind 20 X 22 X .040  then use: 7F3-1  



That is the 701 Fuselage longeron

Rear Top Longeron 6-B-2 -1 on the 650 plans is  .040 material bent to 90

degrees. it is 1,970 mm long with 20mm flanges.  If the extra 3mm on the

flanges is not a problem this would be a good fit.



6-B-2-2 is the same thin but only 200mm long.



Any angle that is not a standard .025 "L" angle with 20mm flanges will have

a specific part number as it is not an "L" angle.



A .040 angle would be tough to make on your own if you don't have a good

brake.

Had a look at the CH601XL, CH701SP and CH750 plans and no standard angles

in 0.040" material is called;  up the following parts are in 0.040" and all

have .125" root radius.



On the 601XL the rear Longerons (6B2-1) have 22 x 22 legs, the firewall

stiffeners 6B6-3 have 22 x 40 legs and the seat panel angle (6B16-5) have 20

x 20 legs.



On the 701SP the Longerons (7F3-1) have 20 x 22 legs, top angle stiffener to

firewall (7F7-7SP) both legs 20 as are those to the corner angle (7F9-9SP)

to the fuselage.



On the CH750 the horizontal stabilizer(75T2-1) uses 19x19 with the Cabin

corner angle (75F7- 20 x 20



So there you have it, no standards dimensions.  Are you certain that the

legs you require are 19 x 19? If so it would be a simple job to fold some

up.



If you are still uncertain suggest you e-mail Caleb Gerbhardt at Zenithair,

he is always very helpful but may take some days to respond as I think he

likes to keep busy!

If your attitude was better the "old Lady" would have given you all the  help you need!! If you have a legal set of plans the size of the "L" will be on  the plans.

There's a 19x19 L-angle in the Upgrade package that is .040.
