How many people have a trim tab on their aileron? Should it be there at all? or on the rudder? Just curious as an A&P was quizzing me about my trim tab during my annual condition inspection.

Aileron trim tabs are good and will hide the effects of poorly rigged wings but why not fix the wing rigging. Kolb makes a optional fixture that allows the trailing edge of one or both wings to be moved up or down to correct most miss rigging issues. Again trim tabs can hide the effects of poorly rigged wings but there is more drag when a aileron needs to change the direction of a wing, when it can just be pointed where it should be.

>>>>>>>>>>
some wings are built straight,,,, and depending on if the prop turns clockwise or counterclockwise, determines the trim tab direction. a lot of the trim tab correction is the torque of the engine, and if the manufacture does not know which direction the prop turns, he will design the wings for straight and level in a glide..... if for example all the props were to turn the same direction, mods to the wings can correct for the torque.
example. when I first built I re rigged my wings so it would fly hands off... while in the air one aileron was down and the other up.... I rigged it back to my first configuration... added the trim tab, and now the ailerons are both even with the flaps. so pick your own / best configuration and go with it.
