Geez, Stan, I'm beginning to think you don't love me any more....: )

Did anybody make it to Osh this year? I myself did not, due to
weather along my intended flight path, or weather expected once
there. I guess I must be getting old, but that hasn't stopped me from
logging hours around here. I'm up to 1362 hours, with a breakfast
destination today.

Another thing I like about this list is the use of real names for the
most part, and people who can actually spell and punctuate their
sentences, unlike the "McDonald's ads group" (i nead a wyng fur a
kitfox and i'm fliing latter tody is anybody els going fliing 2?)

Lowell,
Congratulations on your return to air time! Love the Plane!! You did a
magnificent job, (I think there was little doubt from this group that your
efforts would yield anything less), you seem to have a real knack for
innovative thinking and design as indicated by all the curiosity on your
special touches. Absolutely love the rudder trim idea, also noticed you
faired you cabine?? Struts (the little ones half way down the main wing
struts not sure if that is what they are actually called), wondering what
you used? Can we see some close ups? Again, congrats.

I agree,
The first thing I do each morning is check the emails. I didn't fly yesterday, the Shuttle piggy backed on the 747 prompted a TFR for the morning. I did have soft plans to get as close as I could and see if I could get a picture. The word is that they were to do the pass at 1500 ft.

To show that it is all not just looking at gauges, I took a camera up last flight and this is what I see. My test area is over Tomatoes, Rice, Almonds and who knows what. The second picture shows another use for the very high water table land in the Central Valley. There are several of these - maybe half a dozen - water ski set-ups in my immediate test area and we think our hobby is expensive.

The third picture is personally interesting. I recognized the Stearman immediately as belonging to a friend and neighbor. After fueling, I parked beside it and felt the exhaust pipes to check if he had just arrived and was in the area - cold. Then after checking the gossip lines, discovered that he - a CFI - was giving a check ride for a tailwheel endorsement to another neighbor's daughter and did probably a You-Tube quality groundloop and it broke the aft spar on the right wing. The airplane is grounded now waiting for the insurance folks to check it out. Can you imagine carrying the memory that your groundloop was on your check ride. Rumor has it that the student pilot was Air Force and possibly a graduate of the academy.

What do they say? Keep the dirty side down. How about, Keep the pointy end in front.
Lowell

Loyd,
I think you are referring to the jury struts. I made up an airfoil shape
plug mold of wood. I painted it and smoothed it so there would be no
imperfections and used wax and a separator, then covered it with one layer
of a very light fiberglass fabric and vacuum bagged it to reduce the amount
of resin in the final lay-up. The plug mold had a piece of aluminum
extending aft so the aft edges of the glass fairing wouldn't be bonded. I
used a table saw to trim that off and then cut it to length and bonded it
around the strut at the aft edge. Lots of time sanding and some
microballoon filler smoothed everything out. I learned all this stuff while
helping a neighbor build a Lancair.

Installed the fairings are soft to the touch because of the thinness of the
lay-up. I was really trying for light, and I almost made it there - 665
lbs.

Thanks Rick. I just looked again at your airport and surrounding community. It was impressive during our visit, much different then our 90 home airpark here.
