Looking for input/advice from the group. Having problems on the directional giro’s in a CJ both front and back cockpits. They are both slow to indicate direction and sync does not help. Both were working well until recently, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks..

Doug/Gill,
Have a similar issue with a Yak52 Directional Gyro (both cockpits). Any advice for this variant?
Thanks

Nigel,
I have never seen a Yak unit but if it has vacuum tubes with all the shaking going on I would check to make sure pins were seated tight.

On the Yak 52, the PT200 Inverter in the rear just behind the Russian
VHF radio location (left side looking after behind the rear seat) powers
the DG or slave compass system. It also provides inverter power to the
attitude gyro in the rear cockpit and the VSI/Turn and bank.
Do you know if your rear cockpit attitude gyro is functioning properly?
If it is flaky, exchange it with the front cockpit gyro and see if the
problem stays with the rear cockpit. If it does stay with the rear
cockpit, I would suspect an inverter problem.
It is possible the inverter, which outputs 36 volts AC, 400 HZ is not
outputting correctly.
The other item that controls the slave compass/DG is the large unit
behind the front seat.
No vacuum tubes.

It sounds like the same basic gyro compass system as the CJ. The CJ though
has another unit. This is the FL3 Amplifier, A smaller shock mounted box
behind the front seat. This has one (maybe two -memory not working) vacuum
tubes. The 52 being a later version may be solid state?
Cheers;
