Hi to everybody,
I´m building a CH601HD and I´m interested on install flaps due to the airfield that we fly (big trees on main header).
I looking around on the net for information about this and found some kind of split flaps installed on the European Version of the CH601, mainly in the UK. I saw some pictures from this planes but that´s all, Is there any way to found this sheets or plans? Any imput or suggestion would be apreciated....
Best regards

Marcos,
I have about 350 hours on my 601HD. Believe me, you DO NOT need flaps on a HD. If I am high on final, all I need to do is pull power to idle and the HD will settle like an elevator. Worse case is a side slip but that is rarely necessary.

I have the 601 HDS and that does not need flaps either. Just pull the power and it comes right down.

Hello Jerry, thanks a lot for your info. I´m a begginner with only about 50 hours of flight.
I flew about 40 hours on a Tecnam P92 to get my Permit to Fly and about 15 hours on my homebuilt Minimax. I have no problems with my Minimax as it land at about 40km/h and like you said, just cutt off engine to iddle and down...But with P92 you need to approach very high to avoid the trees (there are always turbulences up there) and after, you eat a lot of the runway even with flaps. I compared it because the approach speed is similar to CH601HD. Another reason is the nose up attitude that let the flaps. I flew 4 hours for practice on a Zephyr 2000 (faster airplane) and you need almost the entire track......
I have an Jabiru 2200 engine for it, that´s the reason I choose the 601HD instead of the XL.
Just some more questions, I read a lot on the net about this airplane but:
-What´s the real cruise speed?
- Is true that in flight normally takes a nose high attitude?
- Is true that baggage compartments covers on wings move in flight?
Thanks a lot for your comments and sorry for my poor english..
My Best Regards
Marcos

Marcos,
I have a Jabiru 3300, no wheel pants and built per plans except I added the forward tilt canopy. If you stiffen the baggage locker doors (check the list archives) and add extra Dzus fasteners (I have a total of then there is no movement in flight. With the 3300 there is definitely no nose high attitude. Most people are finding the need for slight nose up trim or slight adjustment of the horizontal stab. but it is a weight and balance issue only. Move the battery fore or aft to get the W&B in the center then no problem. I have leading edge fuel tanks with 15 gallons in each plus an 8 gallon header tank. With a fixed pitch Sensenich prop I fly at an indicated of 105-110 mph at 2700 to 2750 RPM, at a fuel burn of about 5.5 gal/hr. If I increase RPM to 2800 I get about 115 MPH but fuel burn goes up to 6 - 6.5 gal/hr.. At 2650 the fuel burn goes below 5 gal/hr and the cruise is about 99-100mph. I still say no flaps needed for the HD. If I pull power and set for 60-65 indicated I can land in less than 700 feet with little braking. The descent angle is quite steep. I normally do final at 70-75 and slow to 65 over the fence and still land in less than 1000 feet. Good luck it's a fine plane.

Marcos,
Let me second (or third) everything Jerry said. He is exactly right. No flaps needed. RPMS and speeds match mine. I have almost the same set up: 601 HD with the XL front hinged canopy and a Jabiru 3300. Take off and landing videos are online. Just Google "N601T".

Many thanks to all of you for your help.
I´m clear now, NO FLAPS..... Right now I fisnished the vertical tail and elevator, all the ribs done and planning to begin with the spars.
It sounds great the speeds you mentioned and enought for me and what I use to fly.
Thanks again
