If, for any reason the cables were removed at the gyro compass unit near the vertical stabilizer, both indicators will not operate.

Thanks to all that responded to my heading indicator /
directional gyro problem a couple of weeks ago. I had the tubes removed and
visually checked as well as the contacts cleaned. Still no joy=2C both fron
t and
back instruments in the CJ are inop. Does anyone have any further suggestio
ns
for troubleshooting? Thanks in advance.

I found the tube socket needed the pin sockets tighten in order to make good
contact with the tube pins. A number guys here have said the smart thing to
do is to replace DI and AI with D10 Dynon, fits in place of AI and saves
weigh and power.

Hi Folks,

I'm relatively new to Yak ownership having only taken the plunge in June
this year. I'm grateful to the list and a number of individuals like
Dennis Savarese in particular who have been very helpful. I'm also
fortunate to have the expertise of some great guys at Falcon Field. The
reason for this posting is to endorse the suggestion of fitting The
Dynon D10. I have a D10A in my front cockpit and a D6 in the back. I
was able to shed about 80 pounds of weight in the form of heavy
inverters, gyros, instruments and rather sketchy wire. I redid my
weight and balance afterwards and all is well. Of course, this will not
sit well with purists who want to retain the original instrumentation
and character of the aircraft, but I am very pleased with the Dynon
EFIS. I have retained an ASI and simple Altimeter as a backup. Bear in
mind I have a yak 52 not a CJ, but I am sure the same modification can
be made.

Best of luck and I hope you solve your problem.

Regards,
Franc, N9102E
