What about the flap actuator itself?  Bad seals in the actuator will allow air pass the piston and vent out either flap handel.

Thinking the problem was the selectors, I replaced the front gear selector and the front flap selector. This did not help at all.  

 

 So at this point all the  QSF-2A's have been replaced

 

 Today I pulled all the up lines off the 3 gear actuators at the actuators and the down line from the flap actuator and pressurized the system. I did not have any air leaking from the open side of any actuators at all so the actuators are all good. I did notice that the lines I disconnected from the 3 gear actuators and the line from the flap actuator had a very small amount of air venting through.

 

 The emergency system was also checked at the fire wall check valves and NO air is entering the system from the emergency side. both check valves are fine. 

 

 GEAR:

 

 My determination is that the air is being back fed through the system and the only culprit on the gear side could be the rear gear selector. Today, as soon as I replaced the rear gear selector the air stopped  back feeding in the lines and therefore stopped venting from the front and rear gear selector ports. My guess is my front gear selector was fine all along and that it has been a bad rear selector for quite a while. 

 

 FLAP:

 

 The new front flap selector is still leaking really bad and the new rear selector is quiet.  I pressurized the system again and tried every different combination of front and rear flap selectors settings and the hissing from the front selector did not stop. I confirmed that during the checks that when the front flap handle was in the up position, placing the rear flap handle in the down position correctly caused the flaps to extend. However, placing the front flap selector in the down position, extending the flaps, and then placing the rear flap handle in the up position DID NOT retract the flaps.

 

 The ONLY thing I can surmise is that a bad flap diverter valve is the culprit for the venting in the front flap selector?? How would this be possible with a brand new rear flap selector in the neutral position?

Hi Pappy,



If you read my trouble shooting again you'll see I disconnected one side of every actuator on the de-pressurized side then pressurized the system. there was no air leaking through any actuators at all. In fact the hoses that I had disconnected from the actuators had some air flowing which means it is back-feeding in the system. I solved that problem with a new rear gear selector. I'm guessing the flap issue is in a bad flap diverter valve, but I just dont have a good feel for the way air goes through that flap system.



BTW, whoever did the full color air schematic for the CJ... it has been a GREAT help!!!
