I will soon be choosing paint for my Speedster. Planning on Army trainer coloring scheme, yellow wings, silver or blue fuse, Red and white stripes on tail. Has anyone uses Stewart water based paints ? Would like to get an estimate on quantity used, application ease, etc. Ed Gray Dallas Mod 4 Speedster, Viking engine, warp prop.

Ed,I have a good friend, Mark, an experienced painter and restorer, who uses Stewart for all his work. His email is rmwchc(at)gmail,com.
By the way, I have a Mark IV I painted in the colors you're contemplating, blue fuselage and yellow wings with the stripes on the rudder. I used Stits process. Good stuff but not as simple to work with as water based paint.

I had a friend that could not get it to work well for him. He was a decent painter with the conventional urethane paints, but ended up giving up trying to get the Water based system to work.

Hello,
I am using Stewart's System on my my KF7.
I'm using their adhesive, fill, and paint. I've only painted the wings so far. I used less than a gallon of White two-part epoxy paint from Stewart. I am not a painter, first time to attempt to paint with a spray gun. But I have to say the quality of the paint job we did is as good as I've seen anywhere. The paint is water borne, not water based. Clean up is a snap compared to the other paints. I'm going to try attaching a picture of the finished product. We put six coats (three cross coats) of fill and six (three cross coats of epoxy paint on the wings.
If I can paint, without any runs and get a good smooth finish, anyone can.
Stewart supplies a seven DVD set that guides you through the process from preparation, to the finish paint. That really helped me. You can also find a lot of their videos on line at UTube.com

I used Stewart System for my Avid Magnum but have not painted it yet. Might leave the white base. I really like the system. No smell, easy to clean, not toxic, even did many of the smaller parts in my basement.I think sun protect coats (black), glue, cleaner, primer (white) cost about 1500 to 1800. Brushes etc extra. Getting old and now stalled. I would sell Thanks

Ed, I used the Stewart's system and I would recommend it to anybody. It's by far the easiest product on the market for your health and will give you a fine finish as long as you follow their directions. The only ones who have trouble is the ones that "know how to paint" and can't follow directions. You won't be disappointed. Now if I could just stop flying long enough to finish painting my cowl, doors, turtle deck and flaperons I'd have a nice looking plane.
