First pic: I found this pick in the wing. I was thinking that maybe this wing hadn't been resealed before.
Second pic: I'm getting down to the short strokes now.
I've got about 25 hours in this wing. At this point, I wish I had not started on the top half of the rib. Got burned once on a wing by not doing both sides so . . . . .
Did the Polysulfide stripper work? Well, yes and no. It's difficult to control. It strips, but, not all that well. The Polysulfide in this tank is almost black. It doesn't look like anything I've ever used. It is a bit brittle compared to PS890. It also sticks like crazy. It's nearly impossible to get under it and scrape up a piece. THe other stuff I can grab onto with suture clamps and drag out a chunk. This stuff breaks off.

I hate to ask this but how often do you need to “reseal” tanks? I have had my 1977 Cheetah since 1981. Over 5000 hrs. No leaks.

Only needs to resealed when it leaks. Not that common.

I put this under old wives tales. If it leaks, odds are there was a bubble in the sealant when it was sealed. Or a small spot was missed. I've got a 74 Traveler That's never had the wings opened. Another customer has a much misused and abused Cheetah with no wing leak history. One plane has been crashed twice, nothing serious, wings bonded and still no leaks.

On the other hand, I had a 2004 Tiger with a leak from the factory. Several serial numbers later another 2004 is dry.
It's the luck of the draw.

If you haven't had a leaky tank, then all I can say is thank someone above. It is by far the biggest PITA! My IA wont even fix them anymore, especially on moonies. Apparently they are worse than grummans. The only reason he helped me is he didn't do much except shoot the rivets to fix my delaminated wing and inspect everything before I put it all together. I got to do all the scraping, and cleaning, and sealing. I really hope I never have to do that again.

I got the tank, pretty much, all cleaned today. Figure about 30 hours total so far. Just some final cleaning and then the sealant.
On-the-whole, this is about average. The last tank I resealed was in 2007. I only resealed the top half of the rib. The top half of the rib had been resealed 6 times previously. I dug out a LOT of sealant. I had about 25 hours in cleaning half a rib. It is a major PITA to clean the tank.
