I can't remember who it was, but someone on this list had (or has?) a Rotec carburetor for a 3300 Jabiru engine that he considered selling at one time. If that is the case, I, or a friend, may be interested.
If this person still has it and would consider selling it, please contact me off list at this email address. Thanks.

Hi Bill,
Sorry for the delay in replying. The status on my Lightning kit is that I am just about ready to hang the engine, which is still in the box. Currently working on the panel, and I would say that the airframe is ready for primer/pain from the firewall aft.
There are some things that I like about the Bing carb, but I would like to have leaning capabilities, though I do have a Parker 4Z(A1)-V4LR-B needle valve that I was planning to use for leaning.
I know that at least one Lightning is flying with a Revmaster 40 mm carb, and that Aerovees won't work with fuel pumps, though lots of Sonex's use them with gravity feed.
At this time, I'm open for suggestions as to the best way to go. I don't have pricing info on the Rotec carbs, so tell me what you have in mind for your setup. Either I, or my friend Jerry may be able to use it. He's building a Sonex V-tail.
I can call you this afternoon, or you can call me if you wish. My home number is (713) 467-2575, and my cell number is (281) 536-9052. Thanks.

Bernardo, it may be that you like spending a bunch of time trying to work out the bugs in an engine. If so, you will enjoy changing the Bing Carb for something that may or probably not work well. At least one Lighting has tried the Rotec and given up. If you want to lean a Bing, and still have reliability, get a Hacman control.
Perhaps you like to spend money fixing something that isnt broke. If so, go ahead. There is a reason 99% of Lightnings are using the Bing. Feel free to ignore that and do your own testing. In fact, if you like even more excitement, make the carb change before the first flight. An engine failure or loss of power on the first flight will give you an additional thrill!!!
Yes, I am being a bit sarcastic, but hopefully that will help to communicate the foolishness of changing a proven engine set-up BEFORE the first flight. It is not fun to have engine problems in a Lightning.
Just my opinion......

Hi Doug,
That email was meant for Bill, not the group. My fault for not paying attention to the "to" bar. Oh well....
FYI, I am interested in the best and safest setup for my engine but I am also open to other possibilities. I have been known to make changes, even to the airframe, now and then. This is not my first rodeo with homebuilts, having built a couple and designed a one off, so I'm prone to make changes, sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much. That's why it's called "Experimental".
What you say may have merit, but maybe there's other, better ways to do things, like using a different carburetor on a Lightning. I know of at least one Lightning with a Revmaster carb that performs great. My engine does have a Bing and I also have my own version of a HACman. I may still go with that setup, but maybe not. We shall see.
I appreciate your concern, but if I do change things around, those changes will be well thought out and tested, I guarantee. I also like to keep my rear end in one piece., like most of us.
Regards,
Bernardo

| The Rotec unit has a high use here in Aust on Jabiru engines.
It has positives with easy start, fuel savings and increased engine power.
Once tuned to your engine (set up) you will be happy with results.
Engine seems to run better right through rev range with increased response.
As you can lean with height an over rich mixture, is controlled.
