Does anyone have a line on shaved 20x7.00-8 Cheng Shins or an equivalent that will fit my rims? Original equipment has finally worn out.

Thanks Jason. I'll look them up. I did finally mount King Fox 21x12-8 tires that I'm still getting used to. They're quite bouncy on landing I've found unless you really "grease" the touchdown.

the 21" x 12 x 8s are great as well.........
If you bouncing you might be landing too hard ?

They just "feel" different than the Cheng Shins. I'll get used to them with practice. Landings are improving already.

Funny to find this thread. I just flew around the patch for the first time with my Kings, that I bought a few years back. Came to the forum to ask WASSUP with the bouncing? Seems my gear is now all spring and no shock absorber. I put 8 PSI in them and came here to ask opinions about whether to add some or take some out.

I started the same tire at 8 lbs with the same results on my kitfox IV. I started lowering the pressure and am now at 4 psi and it works great. Pressure seemed to have a big bounce effect for my style of landing.

Jeff, Have the same tires at similar pressure on bush gear. I bounced mine in for a long time. No more. Here's a hint. It ain't the tires causing the bouncing.

I tend to agree with Pat on this one.
I run 10 lbs in mine (also with the bush gear) and have no problem bouncing unless I screw up the touch down which I do on occasion (OK...maybe more than occasion)
Its all part of flying !...no big deal.

Managed to spin (cut) the valve stem of the inner tube off when running with 4-5 lbs. Tubelss tires will possibly break the seal at the bead because of the drag of spinning up the larger tires.

When landing at SCX in Tennessee, with 19-35 knot crosswinds, I hit
the right-side wheel bad enough to gouge and bend the Douglas wheel,
but the *tubeless* Chengs stayed on and didn't lose any air...16 lbs
pressure. Flew it home the next day, without even checking for
damage. I didn't even notice the gouging and bending until a week
later when I took the wheel pant off. Hammered the bend straight,
filed some of the gouging out, and continue to fly it to this
day...and beyond.

Nice airplane, Jeff. Generally the amount of air in the tires has nothing to do with bouncing. Usually the problem will go away when you slow down your landing speed a bit so that it stalls about the time you touch down.

Hi Pete-
Not FROM Texas, but I've been there! I and a buddy put down at SCX
because weather conditions were getting bad and we were flying higher
and higher to get away from it. We saw the airport below us, and
decided it was time to land. I put the left wing down and touched
down, and it bounced over onto the right wheel then stuck. The
airport manager came driving out to see if I was ok, so it must've
been quite a sight. My buddy in his 150 took three tries before he
got it down. I've got a picture of the wind sock, and it's straight out.
Yes, if I knew then what I know now, I'd have used the cross taxiway
and part of the parking lot there to land, but I was a rookie at that
point. : )
Yeah, I missed Osh altogether last year....weather was too bad to get
around the Chicago area, and by the time it cleared....about
Wednesday...I was out of the mood for going.

I have not had a chance to try it again, but I did lower the pressure to 4 PSI last night. One of them just kept on going after that. Was flat within 1/2 hour.
The common theme I am hearing is the soft touch. I can grease them all with a wheel landing, but the three point is still a matter of luck, as much as I try. Am all ears about what I am missing, but think I have heard it all and I think I understand what is going on. At that AOA adjusting pitch to go for the soft touch won't work, I have to learn how to use the throttle to stop it from dropping in, or get the timing right on the roundout. Mix that with a strong crosswind, and the only technique I can think of that guarantees control in a Model 2 at three point speeds is luck. Add a gust, and forget it. I work on it occasionally, but if I lack currency, often the case, I take the less risky way out and wheel it. Already ripped the gear off once, do a search. For me, this a challenging bird, and I have flown a lot.
I have gathered parts for a Model IV in my hangar. I have heard a couple of comments about the bush gear that suggest it is more forgiving, might choose that.

And as a followup to the landing story, this was the trip where just
prior to that, I was seeing 177 mph ground speed on the GPS. We were
heading down to Sun 'n' Fun, but quit trying after the winds got so
bad. The next day we headed for home....with no wind whatsoever....go
figure.

Maybe I will try 10 PSI. I was halfway expecting the answer to be a higher pressure to firm them up. 10 is the max printed on the tire.

I have not had a chance to try it again, but I did lower the pressure to 4 PSI last night. One of them just kept on going after that. Was flat within 1/2 hour.
The common theme I am hearing is the soft touch. I can grease them all with a wheel landing, but the three point is still a matter of luck, as much as I try. Am all ears about what I am missing, but think I have heard it all and I think I understand what is going on. At that AOA adjusting pitch to go for the soft touch won't work, I have to learn how to use the throttle to stop it from dropping in, or get the timing right on the roundout. Mix that with a strong crosswind, and the only technique I can think of that guarantees control in a Model 2 at three point speeds is luck. Add a gust, and forget it. I work on it occasionally, but if I lack currency, often the case, I take the less risky way out and wheel it. Already ripped the gear off once, do a search. For me, this a challenging bird, and I have flown a lot.
I have gathered parts for a Model IV in my hangar. I have heard a couple of comments about the bush gear that suggest it is more forgiving, might choose that.
