I have a Kitfox Speedster with a 912 ULS engine. For the past ten years I had a GSC wooden prop on it.Last spring I had about 200 hrs over the recomended hours on this prop so I decide to buy a new prop. I installed a Whirlwind prop. It is a nce looking prop. I cannot tell any difference in take off and climb performance but I am getting 4-5 mph increase in indicated airspeed at the same power settings.
At this same time my engine fuel pump went out. I called Lockwood, California power, and Leaif and nowbody had a fuel pump.I placed one on backorder with an expected delivery of June 29.
When It didn't come I called and was told that Rotex had not sent any and the next delivery date was July 29. On about July 20 I called Lockwood and was told that they would contact Rotex and find out when to expect delivery. Lockwood then notified me that Rotex could not give them any delivery date., But Lockwood did have the new style fuel pump with the factory installed hoses.
I called Lockwood tech rep and asked him if I could use the new style pump.He told me that the pump would work but I couldn't use the hoses. He then explaned how to remove the factory hoses.
The big difference was the cost. The new fuel pump cost $415, the old style was listed at $168.
The new pump requires a vent hose out the bottom of the cowl.
It looked like I was going to lose the whole summer flying season so I bit the bullet an ordered the new style pump. I now have three flight on it and everything seem to be working ok.
