Hi All
Three Bladed Propeller,
Use of Prop Tape. (12" length per blade)
Is it likely to unbalance the prop.
Has anyone lost one strip from the blade.
Any Comments on using Prop Tape

Alan, I have seen a demonstration of prop balancing at
Woodcomp where the addition of half a small postage stamp
on one blade was clearly shown to unbalance it, so that I
guess you would need to be extremely careful in your
application or plan to have your prop rebalanced
afterwards. Regards, David Joyce, G- XSDJ

Alan
there are several things to consider,
It will unbance the prop and the only way to rebalance is dynamic.
If you are unlucky and have a tape come off on a hot day the
vibration will be horrendous. Cracked engine mounts is not unknown.
It will spoil the carefully designed airfoil section and soil efficiency
My 2 cents
Graham

Hi All.
I have the pro tape, maybe i will wait a while before doing anything.
My prop i guess is already out of balance, People tell me the spinner is going up and down, but i really don,t notice anything in the cockpit.
Its been like it for years as the previous owner never did anything to the aircraft and just clocked up 300 hours of cheap flying,Plus the 5 hours after i had paid for it.
The prop is a Airplarse PV50, seems to have a groups of washers [5] in three places located around the hub, all you could do is file bits of the washers, see no other way,?? have no spares washers.
How long would it take with a (prop balancer) to balance a prop.??
The nearest place to Headcorn that could do the job.?
Regards.

Is your plane a Classic? A wobbling spinner is not good, Classic spinner backplates were not round
unless you are lucky and have one of the dished carbon fibre ones.

Hi Graham.
My plane was a Classic but was converted to a Tri Gear by Europa Aircraft Company many years ago. I understand its XL forward of the Fire wall.
The spinner is quite large and of a really nice shape, it seems to be made of what looks like thin Glass Fibre. Fixing seems to be screws in the back plate and screws forward of the blades,

Classic spinner is 13" dia and even longer than that. Not well balanced and
the back and front plates are very floppy and too close together..
If you have the CF ones they are both dished (for stiffness) and further apart.
Don't think anyone is making them any more. Maybe someone has a 3D printer
that can print Graphene? Boy, would that be a dream coem true!

Have just had a look, 3 groups of washers with central allen bolt,
the washers are in the groups are of different washer amounts, so this must be the way they balance the PV50 prop.
Spinner is not alloy, looks like glass fibre, mounting seems quite ridged,
Fixed to back plate, and there is another fixing plate forward of the blades .
Back plate most probably not central.?
